Up to $1,800 Per Month to Pay for Assisted Living or Other Needs

If you or your deceased spouse served in the U.S. Military even one day during wartime, you may qualify for Aid and Attendance money. Currently, this pension-type benefit can be worth up to $1,800 per month to an aged or disabled veteran or widow, depending on circumstances. Some key points to consider are:

  • You do not have to have a service-related disability.
  • Eligibility is determined according to your income and assets but, unlike Medicaid, there is no "look-back period" to determine if you have recently transferred assets.
  • Benefits vary according to whether you are simply over 65, homebound, or in need of constant care, aid and attendance — thus the name of the program.

Often, Aid and Attendance is helpful for people in assisted living facilities. It can also provide a "bridge," enabling you or a loved one to maintain independence and financial stability prior to Medicaid eligibility or the need to enter a nursing home.

Led by dedicated elder law attorney Laurence I. Levinson, we provide a level of service we believe is uncommon even among those practicing elder law. Our approach is to look at the total picture of what you need, which benefits you may qualify for, and which planning services could best protect your assets.
